Recording a New Children's CD

In November I finished recording my new children's CD,Sunshine is Love, at Lakeview Recording Studio. Laughter and fun sums up my experience of writing and singing these songs, and I have enjoyed the production of this CD immensely.  Surrounded by various experts in their fields, I have learned and grown as a singer/songwriter while watching my lyrics and melodies magically blossom.

With Brian Jensen’s insight, expertise, and counsel my lyrics and melodies were brought to life.  Then, with his creative arrangements they took flight. Add to that the wonderful studio musicians who lent their positive spirit and many talents as they filled the studio with their angelic sounds.  With Brian conducting, they soared to the peaceful land of childhood dreams and joyful wishes.  Steve Lerud was a miracle-worker in the Lakeview Recording studio.  Ever watchful, jovial, and encouraging, his confident presence at the engineering station was an anchor.  His ideas and suggestions were always insightful and helpful.  Catching the bright, whimsical nature of my songs, Barry Hansen designed the delightful cover.  Greg Hansen’s good will, enthusiasm, and encouragement enveloped the project from the beginning.  With positive words, his kindness and support could be felt everywhere.  Sharing his vast knowledge of the music business comes so naturally to Greg.   Thank you!

"Singing the Songs of My Heart", CD Review-Songs for Children and Families

Singing the Songs of My Heart" is the family-oriented easy listening debut from singer/songwriter Linda Kay Burk. Linda Kay uses great imagery and narrative structure and draws from her own life experience to weave together these soothing and positive songs of comfort and joy. Particularly prevalent is her imagery of the great outdoors, as she sings about butterflies, dolphins, swimming, and playing outside. Each song is kid-friendly and some are outright children's songs, but her strong and soothing vocal performance and great, piano-driven arrangements give adults something to enjoy as well. The recording quality of "Singing the Songs of My Heart" is great, and the entire album sounds polished and professional. "I Believe in Miracles" is a ballad about Linda Kay's personal healing process, a more adult contemporary track with a fitting soft arrangement and a great vocal performance. "Live in the Moment, Now!" begins with the sound of crashing waves and a nice piano introduction, then turns into a song about taking the time to play with your children, to share joy with them and to live for today. Linda Kay Burk offers her heart and ten positive, uplifting tracks that can be appreciated by the entire family with her debut, "Singing the Songs of My Heart." If you are a parent who enjoys easy listening, adult contemporary and want a great album to put your child to sleep with, pick up this album.

The Color of the Sunset

I stand in the sand, soft and moist,

Feeling the breeze in my hair.

Then coral and blue in the sky above

Flash these words to me:

You don’t have to do to feel the joy.

You don’t have to fear you aren’t good enough.

You don’t have to smile to cover the pain.

You only need to be.

You don’t have to do the mothering right.

You don’t have to be so good.

You don’t have to please everyone in sight.

You only need to be.

You don’t have to do to enjoy me.

You don’t have to get it right.

Don’t force a smile; just relax for a while.

You only need to be.

You don’t have to do;

It’s waiting for you.

Look past it all

And enjoy me!

THE JOURNEY

She carefully found her steppingstones buried under the sparkling water.

Peering closely she saw letters delicately carved in each gray rock:

Happy

Certain

Present

 Confident

     Personal Power

The words glistened as the letters cut into the stones,

Revealing a glittering white granite underneath the smoky exterior.

Treasures!  She had found the treasures.

Carefully she stepped into the clear, cold water.

The stones were solid and she put her full weight on them.

Sparkling blue water covered her ankles.

The sun peeked through the tall green trees.

Light glistened all around.

In the pristine silence she heard a whisper,

“This is Heaven.”

Her joy was full.

BE IN JOY

Dare to laugh, smile, and be happy.
Take a trip,
Face your fears.
Swim with the dolphins.
Jump off a cliff.
Ride in a red convertible.
Drink kava-kava with friends.
Eat sushi and ice cream.
Laugh with a friend.
Stroll through the village.
Wear a fragrant lei.
Take a drive in the country.
See the Valley of the Kings.
Enter the Peace Garden.
Walk a labyrinth.
Talk to a parrot.
Sit in community and in joy.
Bring Heaven to Earth!
